Since Sutton Valence School began its Development Office 20 years ago, much of the focus for our alumni programme has been on engagement with UK-based Old Suttonians. Back then, with social media still in its infancy, targeting the home market was a far easier proposition. As we look to grow though, a greater emphasis is being placed upon the need to engage meaningfully with our overseas community.
One of the largest and most engaged overseas groups that we have are the Old Suttonians now based in the USA. Given the School's rich heritage of attracting English-Speaking Union (ESU) scholars, we have a strong base of American Old Suttonians, along with a large number of English OS who have since emigrated to the States. With that in mind, we are looking at different ways of developing our US connections to create a more coordinated and organised group that we hope will allow us to hold some US-based OS events.
The School last held an event in the US in 2003, so, some 20 years later, we are delighted to announce that we will be hosting a reunion at The Yale Club in New York on Sunday 26th February 2023 at 12.00pm. The Headmaster (Mr James Thomas) and the School's Director of Admissions and Development (Mr Will Radford) look forward to meeting as many OS as possible for lunch, drinks and a chat at a fantastic venue. The Yale Club is at 50 Vanderbilt Avenue (at East 44th Street), directly opposite Grand Central Station. The event will be an informal opportunity for OS based in the US to get to know one another, as well as a chance to chat about the School, both historically and at present as we look ahead to the 450th anniversary in 2026.
We are incredibly grateful to John Marshman (1975 L), who is helping to facilitate the event, as well as all of the Old Suttonians who responded so positively when we initially mooted the event back in 2021.
