We are delighted to have unearthed this fascinating pictorial history of the School as it was 70 years ago. The aerial photo and accompanying site photos from 1951 show a very different School to the one we know today. As the photos pre-date the large scale building work of the early 1960s which saw the construction of the Refectory, Cornwallis House and the Headmaster’s House, the top end of the School site presented a much less developed landscape than it does today. To explore the photos in more detail, please click on the gallery image below.
For those interested in the history of the School, we offer walking tours exploring the history of the site. This is open for parents, past-parents and Old Suttonians throughout the year, so please do get in touch via development@svs.org.uk to organise an individual or group tour.
