Back in 2019 we reported the sad news of the death of Old Suttonian Dr Edmund Capon OBE (1958 L), the curator and longtime director of the Art Gallery of New South Wales. Three and a half years on from his death, we are happy to share the news that the new 'Edmund and Joanna Capon Research Library' has been opened at the AGNSW with a special ceremony yesterday. The Library was established and built based upon Edmund’s ideology and principles. It is designed to be a celebration of Edmund’s profound contribution in this progressive modern era in NSW.
The new library will be officially opened to the public on 3rd December 2022 in conjunction with the grand opening of the $344M ‘Sydney Modern Project’, an extension of the old building of the Art Gallery. We are grateful to fellow Old Suttonian Gary Ma (1969 L), himself a Foundation Benefactor of AGNSW, who sent us the news of the opening and the accompanying photo, in which he is stood alongside his wife Susan and Edmund's widow Joanna.
