Neil Richards (1967 F) recently umpired the National Under 18 Boys' Twenty20 Cricket final at Lord's, which saw St Peter's York pitted against Millfield, who were six-times winners. Millfield were victorious again.
In May, Neil (pictured left) also had the honour of umpiring the annual Eton versus Harrow Cricket match at Lord's, which has been held for the last 213 years. He said that his abiding memory was the sound of the generous applause from the crowd, as he left the ground at the end of the match and headed into the Pavilion and then on, into the Long Room.
Neil is following in the footsteps of fellow Old Suttonian Philip Higgins (1970 F) who has also umpired at Lords. He umpired the MCC Schools versus the English Schools Cricket Association in 2014. Of the young cricketers be umpired, at least 13 are now County cricketers and a few have gone on to play for England. Philip also umpired on the Lord's Nursery Ground and in 2018, was selected by the MCC to tour Chile and Brazil.
