Supporting Old Suttonians in need
The OS Benevolent Fund was established in 2020 with the purpose to help Old Suttonians in need. This is an important part of the ethos of the SVS Foundation and reflects our desire to serve and support the OS throughout their post-SVS life.
Our fund is flexible and, although it has limited resources, it can be deployed deftly, subject to approval by the Old Suttonian Committee, in response to short-term problems faced by our members and their dependants. Although not an exclusive list, our remit includes assisting with financial concerns or hardship, physical or mental health issues or the impact of a recent bereavement.
Upon setting up the SVS Foundation, one of the first areas we identified as needing addressing was the need to provide a fundraising avenue to support Old Suttonians. The OS community has been at the forefront of the School’s fundraising drive to support The 1576 Fund, and whilst that will not change, we wanted to provide an avenue to support Old Suttonians at the same time. In essence, The 1576 Fund supports those about to start their time at the School and the OS Benevolent Fund aims to support those who have finished their time at the School. The Fund is not designed to fundraise for a specific target, instead it is hoped that we can build up a fund that can be used, at the discretion of the OS Committee, to support any Old Suttonian who may need assistance. This has long been suggested by a number of Old Suttonians as a worthy initiative, so we hope that collectively Old Suttonians get behind this new fund.
