A number of Old Suttonians and current SVS pupils competed in the Kent County Open competition at Bisley at the weekend. This is a fullbore (7.62) competition, where competitors shoot two sighters and ten rounds at 300, 600, 900, and 1000 yards.
For Elyse Ratcliffe and Filipp Rivanenok (both Fourth Form) who were sponsored by the Old Suttonian Rifle Association for this shoot, this was their first self-coached competition. For Daniel Wild (Lower Sixth), who was sponsored by OSRA last year, this was his second Kent Open competition, and it showed: he scored an exceptional 50.6 (ex. 50.10) at 600 yards, and was ranked the best Kent school student at the competition.
The Old Suttonians also saw unprecedented success at the Open: Frederick Pawlik (2011 M) took the top spot at 1000x with 49.6, with Chris Dale (2007 C) hot on his tail with 49.4; Dr Anthony Bromley (2014 W) was also the top shot at 600x, 900x, and at Long Range, ranking second overall.
Mrs Thomas, who has shot for Great Britain, also competed, coming third overall and the best in B class. This was an exceptional performance for SVS, where we achieved success across the School community.
