We are sorry to report the death of Old Suttonian Harry 'Robin' Hearn OBE (1945 W) on Tuesday 1st March 2022, three weeks before his 95th birthday. Robin [pictured above with Paul Anderson OBE (1952 W) back in 2016] attended Sutton Valence School between 1940 and 1945, becoming Head of School and Captain of Cricket in 1944.
His love of Cricket facilitated a lifelong connection with the School and Old Suttonian community as he regularly returned to SVS to take part in the Old Suttonian Cricket week throughout the 1950s and 1960s. He was always easily recognisable on The Upper, by his unique School colours cap; in lieu of the normal circular pattern of blues and black rings, his was formed of triangular segments cascading down from the crown to the rim of the cap. His involvement in OS Cricket was significant - he was a shrewd captain who encouraged the development and integration of younger OS into the team. Above all else, he always played the game with a smile on his face and those who knew him well, remember his bonhomie and generous spirit.
He leaves behind his wife, Barbara, to whom he was married for nearly 70 years, his four daughters (who themselves were regular attendees at OS Cricket matches), 11 grandchildren and three great grandchildren. A funeral service will be at St John the Baptist Church, Whitchurch Hill on Thursday 31st March at 11.30am. For more information, please refer to robinhearn.muchloved.com/.
