Over the last week, David Pickard (Staff 1977-2001, 2009-2015), the Honorary Archivist for the SVS Foundation has hosted a number of London Walks for the SVS community to attend and learn more about the history of the city.  The range of guests has included Old Suttonians, past parents, current staff as well as OS Chairman, Robert Sinclair (1967 M), who has contributed the following report:

“Having lived in London most of my life I wanted to find out if I had missed anything.  Having met up in Trafalgar Square, we set off on our route, which would finish at Kensington Palace. There were a few strategic stops along the way that enabled DP to point out facts and features that I had never seen close-up before.  These included the Canada Memorial in Green Park and the tiltyard of Whitehall Palace. We also discovered the location of the Great Exhibition, which was built in 1851, with the original footprint clearly marked out to put this huge structure into perspective.

All-in-all, it was a fascinating insight into London, covering a range of historical facts and features. The former teacher in DP makes him the perfect tour guide – really informative and engaging in how he guided the group around the 4km route. He is planning more walks in the future, which will include reference to Terence Cuneo (1924 M), the Queen’s Coronation artist. Please keep a look out in the newsletter for further announcements."
