News stories from the School and Old Suttonian communities

Last Friday, we were delighted to host our first social event at the School in over two years, with the return of the SVS Foundation Quiz Night. The event saw over 200 parents, past parents, staff, governors and Old Suttonians come together for a fundraiser in aid of Sepsis Research FEAT. The strength of response for the event far-surpassed what he had expected and we were delighted to have 26 tables competing.
The evening was overseen by our quizmaster-extraordinaire, David Gilman (SVS Parent 2014-2021), who compered questions ranging from Latin translations to celebrity body parts. The piece-de-resistance was undoubtedly his final round - a guess-the-movie round featuring scenes re-enacted by members of staff. For those of you who were unable to make it on the night, a link to the movie clips is included below.
After some strong quizzing, the scores were totalled up and the Headmaster and Governors’ team was announced (much to their embarrassment) as the runaway winners.
In total, the evening raised an amazing £2148.63 for Sepsis Research FEAT, which was a fantastic result. Our thanks go to everyone who contributed to its success. Particular mentions should go to the army of Second Form Junior Leadership pupils who worked tirelessly all night setting the room up and working as runners for the quiz. In addition, our thanks go to the team of Third Form, Fifth Form and Upper Sixth markers, the scorer - Emma Gilman, as well as all of the staff who helped with the catering, bar and floristry.
All-in-all, a fantastic event and a real showcase for the strength of the SVS community. Thank you to everyone who came along and we look forward to seeing you at another event soon.
