Last Friday, we were delighted to host our annual SVS Foundation Golf Day at The Ridge Golf Club. Having not held the event since 2019, we were delighted to see a strong field of 45 golfers take to the course, with representatives from across the School community. Teams included Old Suttonians, parents, past-parents, grandparents, staff, former staff, governors, as well as the School’s First Team.
The golf was of the traditional high standard with some excellent rounds throughout. The course played well and, despite windy conditions at times, the Stableford scores were higher than previous years. After an enjoyable day, the scores were totted up and the winning team was that of the School’s First Team – Andrew Loy (Upper Sixth), Heston King and Lorcan Hanna (Lower Sixth) and Henry Kyd (Fifth Form), who had a fantastic round. This was the first time since the introduction of the winners’ Pickard Trophy that the staff team had not come away victorious. Whilst not enjoying any team success, Adrian Penfold (Staff SVS) came away with one of the two ‘Nearest the Pin’ competition victories, with the other being taken by Shaun Cole (Parent SVS).
The day concluded with a fantastic meal in The Ridge’s restaurant and a presentation of the prizes by David Pickard, the SVS Foundation Archivist. All-in-all, an enjoyable day was had and we are grateful to all of the players who came along. Our thanks also go to The Ridge for hosting us, in particular our Old Suttonian connections at the Club – Sophie Skinner (2003 H), Warren Doust (1983 F) and Fiona Cockton-Leckie (2002 H).
