On Thursday evening, the School hosted a book launch of The Chakrata Incident by Old Suttonian Neville Sarony QC (1958 M), who is visiting the UK from Hong Kong to promote the book. The Chakrata Incident is the latest in his Max Devlin series and is the prequel to The Dharma Expedient and Devlin’s Chakra (all of which can be found in the School's library). The latest story centres upon Max Devlin who is a high-flying officer in the Royal Gurkha Rifles, destined to command and achieve senior rank. Along the way, he finds his ethics and principles being challenged by his career ambition, and it doesn’t take too much guessing to work out which wins out.
Neville is a well-known, practising QC in Hong Kong, whose legal career was preceded by military service in the Gurkhas and a stint in the Foreign and Commonwealth Office. He established a law firm in Kathmandu, Nepal, followed by a practice in London, before moving to Hong Kong in 1985.
On the night, there was a diverse audience made up of Academic Scholars, parents, Old Suttonians and staff, who learned about the books, asked questions regarding Neville’s experiences in the law and the military and debated the current political position in Hong Kong. The evening ended with a book signing, with many of the Scholars coming away with some half term reading! Our thanks go to the amazing Library team for accommodating the event and of course, to Neville for a stimulating evening and for donating copies of The Chakrata Incident and Devlin’s Chakra to the School Library. We have several copies of The Chakrata Incident left, so please email the Development Office is you would like to purchase a copy.
