Last Sunday saw the SVS Car Show back after a four year hiatus. We were very lucky with the weather and The Upper was transformed by the addition of around 60 beautiful cars, old and new, polished and primed to look their best. The event was really well-supported from within the School community and the wider village community, with around 400 people visiting throughout the day. As well as the array of cars, they also enjoyed the added incentive of watching the School’s 1st XI versus The Band Of Brothers Cricket match and tucking into the delicious barbecue food. The coconut shy and other family games were enjoyed by children and adults alike, and Chris Haynes (1990 M) and James Slaughter (1992 F) walked us down memory lane with stories of their fathers’ escapades and how their love of cars developed.
The day culminated in a parade lap around The Upper, which was a fantastic opportunity to see the vehicles in action, particularly for Chris Haynes as he deliberated his ‘Car of the Show’. After much thought, Mrs Clark’s beautiful 1966 E Type Jaguar won and Chris presented her with the new John H. Haynes Cup, dedicated to his late father John Haynes OBE (1956 M). Throughout the show, spectators voted for The People’s Choice, which was won by Mr Alexander’s Subaru BRZ. Congratulations to our winners and thank you to SVS community for supporting the event in such great numbers. Please do look out for our next SVS Car Show, provisionally booked for 2024.
